We have had a great week. It all started last Monday when Team Canada made us proud in Australia. It was the greatest feeling being Canadian. Our students were involved and cheering on Canada. My students dedicated last Monday to Canada and the Olympics. We watched them all day. The kids even made Canada flags, some had tattoos on and had their faces painted!! I bet Ottawa was rockin’ too.
On Wednesday, we went camping with Gilroy and about 80 grade 8 students. We were in Lake TInaroo for 3 days. It is up the mountains in Northern Queensland, about 3 hours from us. A great spot. We went canoeing, fencing and lots of swimming. It was great to get to know other teachers and students on a different level.
This weekend, we caught up on house stuff, mowing the lawn, cleaning, groceries and laundry. We had a nice BBQ on Saturday night. On Sunday, we went to Paluma Range, a National Park, it offers fantastic tropical rainforest. It has amazing hiking trails and fresh water swimming areas. It is about 30 minutes from us. We met up with Jude, Lyndon and kids. Some of the players from the Crocs team were also there. Afterwards, we stopped at the Mango Shop on the side of the highway. They have great fruit and ice cream. We then went to work out and headed to Dan & Sonia’s house for a swim and a walk on the beach. They live in Forest Beach and Dan works with us at Gilroy, great family. They have a daughter, she is 2.
We came home and exhausted!! Next weekend, we will venture out again. The rain season has past. The sun is out and it is hot!!
Lots of Love,
Mel & JC
