Paluma National Park, The Rainforest
Sunday, March 28th, 2010
It has been 2 months since we arrived in Ingham and we are ready for a well deserved break, four more days. Exams and report cards are done next, Tasmania.
Our week was uneventful until Thursday. We were heading to the beach on Thursday night to meet up with friends for dinner and got stopped by the police; they decided to do a random check. He had to give a breathalyser test. All of course was clear. We had a great dinner and I drove home.
JC spent all of Friday and Saturday marking. Sunday came around and we had to get out of the house. It was overcast outside but perfect temperature. We packed up and started driving to Paluma Rainforest. We weren’t even out of the Ingham and got pulled over again, this time it was a “ride program.” Not only did he have to give another breathalyser but a saliva drug test. The police asked us why we decided to do an exchange in Ingham. Ingham really is that small and a ghost town.
After a very crazy road, we made up to Paluma. The rainforest and scenery is breathtaking. The pictures say it all.
We are now counting sleeps to Tazzie. We will try and write on the road from our campervan if not, see you in 2 weeks.
Happy Easter!!!

Count Down is on!!!
Sunday, March 21st, 2010
Count down is on until we head on vacation. We are really excited and can’t wait to travel. Term 1 is about to finish at school. This week is exam week and next week report cards. After each term there is an exam period and report cards. Your students won’t change, very different from our system.
This past week was busy. JC had his Footy Practice, I think he will pass. It is a little rough and we won’t be around on weekends for the games. Good to watch and get to know the game a little. We also had the swim carnival. All 3 high schools in the area compete against each other and Gilroy staff work the event. It was a good night, lots of school spirit.
St. Patty’s day is not really big here, we did not go to a pub, small town, and everything closes early. JC had a beer for the boys. We also got word on Wednesday am that Vinny’s dad past away very sudden. This was shocking, we had just seen him days before we left. Vinny was in our wedding party and is a very good friend of JC’s. Tony will be missed by so many. Thinking of all the LaPietra’s during this difficult time.
Thursday night we went to the Beach for dinner, we closed the place down this week. Good times with friends.
We have been on a cyclone watch for about 5 days. Last night was the worst. It didn’t end up hitting us. We had very high winds and very little rain. We were prepared anyways, they can be really unpredictable.
Saturday a neighbour took us to this beautiful swim hole by our house. It was very refreshing, nice cool fresh water. No crocodiles there, it’s too high up. JC went swimming. We only swim when we know it is 120% safe!!!
Sunday, we were sick of being stuck in the house all weekend. The cyclone was downgraded and it was safe to go out. We went for a drive to Taylor’s Beach. Not as nice as Forest Beach but it reminded JC of 4 sands in Blind River. It got very windy while we were there.
That wraps up this week!!!
Until next time.......
